If you keep your ears to the streets, if you’re “outside” as the kids say today, then you’ve seen Libby Ballengee. You’ve seen her at local concerts. You’ve seen her on television. You’ve heard and listened to her on podcasts. She is, in her words, a “Music Booker and Promoter at The Brightside Music and Event Venue”. That’s accurate, but what’s equally correct is Ballengee is one of Dayton’s biggest advocates. Whenever she can, she’s putting the word out about how special the Gem City is.

The idea for the free workshop sprang this week from co-organizers Libby Ballengee, owner of Venus Child Productions, and Anjali M. Brannon, of Beavercreek-based Ayurveda Natural Health Center. Following the Memorial Day tornadoes, Brannon held a similar workshop for survivors at her Beavercreek location. Ballengee said she contacted Brannon to see if the same could be done for the survivors of last weekend’s mass shooting in the Oregon District.

The Supper Club’: Kettering school club provides students with life skills

Before COVID — and the tech revolution — it used to happen a lot more often. But now, many young people have never experienced that type of scenario, leaving them at a disadvantage in the adult world.

DAYTON — As people begin to head back out and about after COVID-19 health restrictions were lifted, two Dayton women are trying to make it easier for other to find fun things to do around the Miami Valley.

Libby Ballengee and Lisa Grigsby founded Dayton 937 as a way to help support local businesses.

With Dayton 937, Ballengee and Grigsby print and place bright green pamphlets on display around the Miami Valley. The pamphlets list local businesses, as well as events happening around the Miami Valley.

Dayton Porchfest showcases region’s rich musical diversity

Dayton is known for the funk of the Ohio Players, Zapp and Slave and the modern rock of the Breeders, Guided By Voices and Hawthorne Heights but the musical diversity runs much deeper. If you need proof, look no further than The Collaboratory’s Dayton Porchfest, returning to the porches of participating homes in St. Anne’s Hill Historic District on Saturday, Aug. 19.
